I used alcohol and drugs for 20 years to help me relax, get to sleep, and numb any pain. I ended up being unable to function without using alcohol and drugs. I hit rock bottom one night and the police came. I don’t remember exactly what happened, but I woke up in the ER in four-point restraints. But even with all that drama, nothing was clicking for me. I just could not get sober.
Finally my family got fed up with my drinking and using drugs and sent me to Hazelden, an alcohol and drug treatment center in MN. Shortly after my arrival at Hazelden, I realized I had no place else to go, nobody wanted me around. At that moment I knew in my heart of hearts that I’d better quit if I wanted to stay alive. But even after I stopped drinking and using drugs, I found that I had a hard time staying sober. The road to recovery was really tough. I got sick a lot in early recovery and was tired all the time.
It was only when I found out about acupuncture and started getting regular acupuncture treatments that I was able to stay sober without the intolerable cravings. And the anxiety and insomnia I had been struggling with improved significantly. After only a couple acupuncture treatments, I began to feel comfortable in my own skin for the first time in my life. I also noticed that I was able to remain calm when faced with stressful situations. Prior to receiving acupuncture, I was tense and anxious most of the time. Acupuncture helped me relax, not get sick as much, and not feel tired all the time. In fact, I rarely get sick now, and I have abundant energy.
As a result of my transformative experience with acupuncture, I became a licensed acupuncturist so that I can help people having a hard time staying sober, or who are afraid of relapsing and want to prevent it. I have been clean and sober for 21 years now, which I could never have imagined because I used alcohol and drugs for 20 years. Now I share with others the step-by-step method that helped me.
I focus my practice on helping people recover from alcohol and drug problems as well as other addictive behaviors. Being in recovery myself since 1995, I bring to my practice 21 years of a deep understanding of addiction and insight into what it takes to stay clean and sober one day at a time. I use acupuncture and herbal medicine to decrease cravings, reduce withdrawal symptoms, relieve tension, and help people relax.
